About
American Professional Educational Services
American Professional Educational Services (APES) is a cornerstone of medical education and training in eastern Connecticut and beyond. Founded in 1996, APES emerged from a growing need for community-oriented CPR classes and has since evolved into a premier institution offering a wide array of allied health programs. Our journey began with CPR and First Aid training, leading us to become an esteemed American Heart Association Training Center. Today, we boast a network of over 400 affiliated instructors nationwide, imparting knowledge to more than 15,000 students each year across programs such as CPR, First Aid, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Our commitment to excellence in emergency medical services education was further solidified in 2001 with the introduction of our Paramedic Training Program. Achieving accreditation in 2018 by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs—based on the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions—APES stands as the only accredited program in eastern Connecticut and the nearest accredited entity to Rhode Island. Our partnership with Hartford Healthcare’s Backus Hospital enriches our program with vital clinical experience, positioning our students for success in their careers.
Expanding our educational horizon, APES now offers Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician programs, alongside being a recognized National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Training Center. The NAEMT courses we offer are renowned for their clinical relevance and up-to-date content, designed to elevate the competencies of EMS professionals and healthcare providers alike. In 2019, our growth continued as we became an American Safety and Health Institute Training Center, introducing courses such as the Child and Babysitting Safety program to our curriculum.
At APES, we pride ourselves on exceeding state and national standards for educational content and course pass rates. Many of our programs are approved for GI Bill® benefits, and we actively collaborate with various agencies, including the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board and American Job Center, to ensure our courses are accessible to a diverse student body, regardless of financial constraints. We offer interest-free payment plans to support our students’ educational pursuits.
Nestled in the picturesque setting of Norwich, overlooking the Marina at American Wharf, our facility is a beacon of learning and professional development. Following our acquisition by Hartford HealthCare, APES has become an integral part of the Hartford HealthCare Emergency Medical Services Network, further enhancing our resources and reach in providing top-tier educational experiences.
